Frequently Asked Questions
About Counselling

Many questions might come up when you consider counselling. I hope to answer some of the most frequently asked questions here, but please feel free to contact me with any others.

Do you offer Online Therapy and In-Person Therapy?

I currently offer online (via Zoom) and phone counselling throughout British Columbia only.

Are you taking new clients?

Yes! I am currently accepting new clients. Please reach out via the contact form to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to determine suitability and fit.

What can I expect from a counselling session? What do I even talk about?

I use the first session as an opportunity to get to know each other and to establish a sense of safety, connection, and trust. While interventions and techniques may be important to help you, these must be grounded in a place of comfort, where you feel safe enough to open up to your therapist. You may notice yourself feeling nervous before a first session, know that this is completely normal! I will try my best to make you feel as comfortable and secure as possible, in a non-judgmental way.

In our sessions I will ask guided questions to help you open up to what you feel is most important for you to talk about. I will also provide resources, exercises, reflection, journal activities, readings, books, podcast recommendations, and other exercises to aid in your growth and development between sessions. My goal is to provide you with practical tools that will enhance your life and lead to growth and flourishing.

Do I really need counselling?

Some people might think things need to get "really bad" before making the choice to seek counselling and therapy; however, there are many reasons why a person might choose to speak with a counsellor about their life before this point.

This might be preventative in nature, or perhaps you are experiencing a season of life where it would be helpful to seek an alternative perspective, gain new insights, or be guided through a transitional period. People also seek out counselling when they want to make a change in their life but are not sure how to, are feeling hopeless, are wishing to address a past trauma, or are in crisis - counselling can be helpful for all of these things.

5

Will counselling be covered under my extended health insurance plan?

Every plan is different. Please contact your plan provider before your first session to ensure that your plan covers the Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) designation.

Important questions to ask may include, “What are my mental health benefits and amount?” and “Do you cover counselling with a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC)?”

6

What methods of payment do you accept?

Currently as all counselling is online, I accept e-transfer at the end of each session.

I do not direct bill insurance providers; rather, I will provide you with a receipt after your payment which you can submit to your extended health plan for reimbursement.
