Hi, it's nice to meet you!
I’m Alysha Chan-Kent (Ph.D.), a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC #10002979) as recognized by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
My Background
• I am a Chinese-Canadian woman currently living and practicing in Vancouver, BC.
• I obtained my PhD in Counselling Psychology at the University of Calgary.
• I have worked in a variety of community, public, and private settings and with various demographic groups including children, youth/teens, young adults, and seniors. My primary focus is in counselling adults.
My Style as a Therapist
• My practice is rooted in the development of a safe, trusting, and collaborative therapeutic relationship.
• My hope is to provide a warm, non-judgmental space for you to work through challenges, identify personal strengths, and create meaningful change in your life.
• I believe you are the expert in your experience and am here to offer insights, share tools, and gently challenge you as you heal and grow.
My Approach to Counselling
• I work from a person-centered orientation to support individuals affected by anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, grief and loss, relationship challenges, life transitions, vocational concerns, cultural issues, and more.
• Trained as a scientist-practitioner, I operate from a client-centered and trauma informed lens. I work closely with clients to identify key concerns, develop realistic and meaningful goals, and create a treatment plan that aligns with your overarching goals. This work is grounded in the development of a safe therapeutic relationship.
• Drawing from an integrative approach, I uniquely tailor each session to my client’s needs, and primarily draw from the following frameworks:
â—¦ Person-centered therapy
â—¦ Cognitive-Behavioural therapy
â—¦ Narrative therapy
â—¦ Acceptance and commitment therapy
â—¦ Trauma-informed lens

Clinical Experience
• I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the University of British Columbia's Student Counselling Centre, providing evidence-based counselling for emerging adults.
• Previously, I lived and worked in Calgary, providing psychotherapy at Mount Royal University, Alberta University of the Arts, and various other community and school settings.
• I have received training in psychoeducational and social-emotional assessments at the Centre for Wellbeing in Education, located on the University of Calgary campus.
